The Lafayette class is a class of nuclear launcher submarines of the United States Navy whose units were in service from 1963 to 1994. They constitute an evolution of the Ethan Allen class.

The units of this class, nicknamed with others the "41 for Freedom", were first equipped with Polaris A-2 missiles, then A-3 before embarking, in the mid-1970s, ballistic missiles. Poseidon C3.

These ships were nearly 130 meters long and 10 meters wide, with a tonnage exceeding 7300 tons. They could carry a total of 16 nuclear missiles.

In total, nine submarines of this class will be built.

They were slowly decomissioned from service between 1986 and 1992.
