In December 2009, the CC 72000s carried out their last regular commercial services on the Nantes - Tours - Lyon route, where they were replaced by X 72500. However, one of the main reasons for their withdrawal, apart from their age, is the pollution generated. by their Diesel engines not compatible with the new European UIC standards. Since 2009, only 72049, 72074 and 72084 remain in the park, paid to the Equipment activity. They are mainly used for the transport to a depot or to the scrapping of canceled equipment or during test campaigns for new equipment. More rarely, they replace, on line 4, the defective CC 72100s until the complete withdrawal of the towed compositions in April 2017.
The CC 72000 are recognizable by the sound of their engine, which gives the measure of their power.
