A poster of the Royal Navy's Valiant class submarine
The Valiant class is the Royal Navy's first class nuclear submarine powered by a British nuclear reactor.
This class is an evolution of the HMS Dreadnought, made quieter thanks to the Paxman diesel-electric generator.
Both units served during the Cold War. They have benefited from a number of upgrades including anti-ship missiles. They also participated in the Falklands War in 1982.
HMS Warspite was withdrawn from service in 1991 and HMS Valiant in 1994. They served as a model for the future construction of the Churchill class and the Resolution class.
Both units of this class, built at Barrow-in-Furness, served from 1966 until 1994.
