The Latouche-Tréville frigate (D646) is a Georges Leygues-class anti-submarine frigate, based in Brest and sponsored by Saumur. It honors Vice-Admiral Louis-René-Madeleine de Latouche-Tréville.
Equipped with SIGMA 40 navigation systems, it is equipped with Exocet missiles, a Crotale system, a 100 mm cannon, anti-aircraft guns, machine guns, and torpedo catapults. It can carry two Westland Lynx helicopters.
During the 1991 Gulf War, 34 of the ship's 37 conscripts served in operations. In 2013, it escorted a roll-on/roll-off ship during Operation Serval and participated in the Corymbe mission. In 2015, she escorted the replica of the frigate Hermione.
In 2020, she suffered damage at sea, losing her masthead, and participated in Operation EURONAVFOR MED IRINI. In 2021, France offered to donate her to Greece as part of a modernization project.
The Latouche-Tréville appeared in the documentary film "Oceans" and made her final sea voyage in June 2022. After traveling 920,000 nautical miles, she was decommissioned on July 1, 2022, and will be deconstructed and recycled.
