The Mistral (L9013) is an amphibious helicopter carrier of the French Navy, the first in a series of three units of the Mistral class. It can be integrated into various forces, such as the French carrier strike group, a NATO Response Force or peacekeeping missions under UN or EU mandate. The French navy has three ships of this type: the Mistral, the Tonnerre (L9014) and the Dixmude (L9015).
Construction of the Mistral began in 2002, with segments assembled in Brest and Saint-Nazaire. The launch took place in October 2004, despite delays due to industrial problems. The Mistral is one of the largest ships in the French Navy, with a length of 199 meters and a displacement of 21,300 tonnes fully loaded.
The Mistral has participated in numerous exercises and missions, including military capability checks and helicopter landing exercises. It has also been involved in amphibious exercises and international missions, such as Mission Corymbe in the Gulf of Guinea.
