A digital drawing inspired by the official tampion of the French frigate Dupleix
The Dupleix frigate is a Georges Leygues-class (Type F70) anti-submarine frigate of the French Navy, bearing hull number D641 and sponsored by Morlaix. Several French ships have been named after Joseph François Dupleix, governor of the French trading posts in India.
Equipped with two SIGMA 40 inertial navigation systems, the frigate was armed with Exocet missiles, a Crotale anti-aircraft system, a 100mm cannon, anti-aircraft guns, machine guns, and torpedoes. It also carried two Westland Lynx helicopters.
For anti-aircraft warfare, it was equipped with a Crotal EDIR system, Sadral systems with Mistral missiles, a 100mm cannon, and machine guns. For anti-surface warfare, it was equipped with Exocet MM38 missiles.
The frigate participated in several notable operations:
- International embargo in the Gulf of Aqaba, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden in 1990.
- First assistance mission in the Persian Gulf, with a visit from President François Mitterrand and ministers.
- Operation Harmattan in Libya in 2011.
- Operational preparation in Toulon in November 2013.
- Port call in Cyprus in April 2014 as part of the Ukrainian crisis.
Her last sea voyage took place on May 16, 2014. After being decommissioned, the Dupleix's hull was installed in June 2016 as a breakwater in Toulon harbor, in front of the Saint-Mandrier diving school.
