The Clemenceau was an aircraft carrier of the French Navy, the first ship of its class built in the post-war period.

Successor to the aircraft carrier Aromanche, lent by the British Navy to the Navy, it was commissioned in 1961.

Her hull number is R98. With 265 meters long, 51.2 m wide, it was then the largest ship in the French Navy, with a full load tonnage of 32,800 tons. Its flight deck displayed an area of ​​8800 m2, and its hangar 3300 m2.

This type of aircraft carrier could carry more than 2,000 sailors depending on the configurations of the naval aviation on board.

Equipped with 2 steam catapults, the Foch and Clemenceau aircraft carriers accommodated a multitude of aircraft, including Super Etendard, Crusader F-8P, Alizé or even Dauphin Pedro and Super Frelon helicopters. The flight deck was 259 meters long, with each carrier having 2 elevators.

The Clemenceau class was powered by 6 boilers, the 4 steam turbines rotating 2 lines of shafts at a maximum speed of 32 knots, for a power of 126,000 horsepower.

Disarmed in 1997, the Clémenceau was destroyed at the end of the 2000s.
