a poster giving instructions for safeguarding posture in the event of an attack on the ship
The ZIPPO, or safeguard, position is taken within the broader framework of ZIPPO measures that a vessel adopts when facing certain threats. When the impact of a missile, artillery fire, or a mine explosion is imminent, sailors adopt this position, which consists of firmly leaning against a solid surface by standing on tiptoe, bending their knees, and keeping their mouths open. It protects sailors from the shock that an impact or explosion generates on the entire structure of the ship. The shock wave can, in fact, injure crew members to varying degrees of seriousness if they do not adopt this position.
So, wherever they are on the boat, each sailor practices donning their accessories (balaclava, safety goggles, and fireproof gloves) and adopts the ZIPPO position when the "safeguard, safeguard, safeguard" alert sounds!
