Poster of the french class mistral
A digital drawing of the French Amphibious Assault ship "Mistral" class
Commissioned in 2006, the "Mistral" Amphibious Helicopter Carrier is the first of three buildings in its class.
As a command and force projection tool, PHAs can deploy a full airmobile force made up of combat helicopters from their flight deck to conduct strikes or surveillance operations over a territory. Their amphibious capacity allows them, thanks to the fast landing craft and barges for transporting equipment, to project troops and vehicles from the sea to the land, but also to carry out rescue operations to the populations (evacuation of nationals, assistance after a sinister).
Their modularity makes it possible to embark a general staff and to set up a joint forces command post for the conduct of a national or multinational operation from the sea. a large-scale health crisis (operating theaters, treatment room for severe burns, etc.).
200 meters long, with a tonnage of over 21,000 tonnes, they are the largest ships in the French Navy after the Charles de Gaulles nuclear aircraft carrier.
