The Cassard class is a series of 2 French Navy frigates, built in the 1980s to replace the older Suffren class ships.

These ships are equipped with sophisticated weaponry and electronic defense systems, making them versatile ships suitable for a variety of missions, such as anti-aircraft warfare and defense against submarines.

      The main characteristics are:

      Length: 139 meters

      Width: 14 meters

      Draft: 6.5 meters

      Displacement: 5,600 tons

      Maximum speed: 30 knots

Armament: anti-aircraft missiles, anti-submarine torpedoes, cannons, machine guns

      Crew: 225 sailors

Although specialized in the escort of aircraft carriers, the Cassard class frigates have been used by the French Navy for various missions, such as the protection of maritime convoys, the fight against terrorism, the participation in international operations of peacekeeping, etc.

They were withdrawn from active service in 2019 (for Cassard) and 2021 (for Jean Bart)
