Poster submarine "narval" keroman naval base
A digital drawing of a Narval class submarine in front of the submarine base "Keroman" in Lorient (France)
Inheritance from the Second World War, the submarine base in Lorient was built by the Germans between 1941 and 1944. A true military complex, highly fortified, the base housed the Kriegsmarine U-Boats until 1945. The french Marine Nationale will occupy it until 1995, before leaving the premises for good in 1997.
Several types of classic propulsion submarines will be based there (first World War II submarines, then Narval, Agosta and Daphne types).
The submarine represented on this poster is a so-called "classic" submarine, with Diesel / Electric propulsion of the "Narval" type, or 1200 tons. A post-war legacy, greatly inspired by German XXI type U-boats, the 1,200 Tons were squadron submarines whose large range of action allowed them to cross the Atlantic. They served in the French Navy from the 1950s until the 1980s.
