Poster vintage "agosta" class french submarine
A digital drawing of the Agosta class French submarine
The Agosta type submarines are the last class of French diesel-electric propulsion submarines.
Extremely modern, (they also share elements with the SNA Rubis) and replacing the "Narval", they were created in the mid-70's. Four units are produced for the French Navy: Agosta, La Praya, Bévéziers and Ouessant.
67 meters long for 1,500 tonnes, these submarines offer great versatility and extreme acoustic discretion in electric propulsion. They embark 54 crewmen for long-distance missions. Their effectiveness will be recognized by various nations which will adopt them, in this case Pakistan and Spain, which will benefit from an improved version enlarged by 9 meters (Agosta 90B).
The French Agosta will serve until the beginning of the 2000s, the "Ouessant" even being put back into service between 2005 and 2009 to train the Malaysian navy, the future buyer of the Scorpène submarines (France participating in the training of crews). This building will be the only one preserved because it is exhibited in Malaysia as a museum. La Praya and Bévézier are now beeing scrapped.
