Poster submarine "daphné" keroman naval base
A digital drawing of a Daphné class submarine in front of the submarine base "Keroman" in Lorient (France)
Inheritance from the Second World War, the submarine base in Lorient was built by the Germans between 1941 and 1944. A true military complex, highly fortified, the base housed the Kriegsmarine U-Boats until 1945. The french Marine Nationale will occupy it until 1995, before leaving the premises for good in 1997.
Several types of classic propulsion submarines will be based there (first World War II submarines, then Narval, Agosta and Daphne types).
The submarine shown on this poster is a "Daphne" type submarine, commonly known as "800 tonnes". A post-war legacy, direct improvement of the Aréthuse submarines (the "400 Tonnes"), the Daphne were so-called "high performance" submarines.
More than ten Daphne-type submarines will sail within the French Navy, from the 1960s to the beginning of 2000. For many sailors, they embodied the very spirit of the so-called "classic" submarine, with propulsion. Diesel / Electric, for many years alongside the much more modern SNA.
This poster comes from a series of three posters, representing the base of Kéroman with an Agosta, a Daphne or a Narwhal. It was produced under Procreate and Ipad Pro in 2020
