A digital drawing of the French frigate Aquitaine class (FREMM)
The Aquitaine or FREMM class is a class of 2nd generation stealth frigates built by France and Italy.
The French Navy would arm 11 (initially 17) from 2012 to 2022 in "anti-submarine" versions, to replace the 9 Tourville class and Georges Leygues class frigates.
The two remaining frigates, of the FREDA type (air defense frigate), will have to replace the two Cassard class buildings.
These frigates are 142 meters long for more than 6,000 tons. They carry among others, 1 gun of 76mm, 2 guns of 20mm, more than thirty missiles (ASTER, SCALP, EXOCET). Each frigate is equipped with an NH 90 Helicopter.
Embarking 108 sailors, they are the most modern frigates of the French Navy.
