Poster history of french air carriers
A digital drawing of the history of french air carriers, from the Béarn to next generation air carrier.
This poster represents to scale all the aircraft carriers owned by France.
-Béarn: Converted into an aircraft carrier in 1928 from a battleship, dismantled in 1967.
-Arromanches: Formerly HMS Colossus, in service with the Royal Navy before being sold to France in 1946, decommissioned in 1974.
-La Fayette and Bois Belleau: Ex-USS Langley and USS Belleau Wood respectively, in service in the US Navy before being sold to France in 1951 and 1953, decommissioned in 1963 and 1960.
-Clémenceau and Foch: Clemenceau-class aircraft carrier in service in the French navy between 1961 and 2000, the latter sold to Brazil and decommissioned in 2018.
-Charles de Gaulle: Nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in service since 2001.
-The PA-NG, a new generation nuclear aircraft carrier, planned to replace the Charles de Gaulle by 2038.
Note that the Bapaume, an experimental aircraft carrier used for training between 1920 and 1936, is not represented in this list.
