Sub l’Immersion - Ewan LEBOURDAIS
Dive into the world of black boats with the book "Sub, l'immersion" by the marine painter Ewan Lebourdais
Ewan Lebourdais, Official Painter of the Navy, takes us with the book SUB Immersion in a rarely published visual epic.
The world of submarines is a secret world, which arouses curiosity, a world that we imagine but rarely see.
Submarines exert a great fascination and even a real fervor for those who are lucky enough to see them.
This book of photographs, elegant and mysterious, allows us to share the emotion felt by Ewan Lebourdais with each visual contact with these extraordinary buildings, but also to the discovery of his own images that immortalize their brief appearances.
A great connoisseur of the sea - its ever-changing climate, the instability of boats that can cause a missed image, the architecture of the coast - Ewan Lebourdais knows, thanks to this acquired experience, how to position himself to achieve the perfect image that he had mentally set for himself.
His photographic approach consists of several stages: entering – in both the physical and mental sense – into the subject; aesthetically crushing the depths of field to excess to allow one to see what the naked eye does not see; choosing the settings in which he immortalizes his subject, which requires anticipation of placements.
SUB Immersion is a visual epic, a tribute to human genius, to its capacity to achieve incredible technical feats but also to the humility of the women and men who sail aboard the steel monsters that crisscross our seas. This book is also an opportunity to show French know-how in a field of excellence that few nations master.
Biography Ewan Lebourdais: Ewan Lebourdais is a great lover of water sports and seascapes. He saw his passion for photography grow in this iodized universe. Passionate about the maritime world in all its forms, he has immortalized a wide range of sea images in his viewfinder, from the legendary frigate Hermione to the acrobatic figures of Breton windsurfers, including the mastodons of the French Navy, such as the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and the nuclear submarines of Île Longue. Today recognized for his photographic aesthetic, Ewan Lebourdais joined the very closed circle of the Official Painters of the Navy in September 2021.
