Poster "leclerc" french army tank
A digital drawing of Leclerc french army Tank
The Leclerc tank is a third generation French combat tank, manufactured at the Roanne arsenal by Nexter until July 2008.
It was named in honor of Marshal Leclerc.
The Leclerc tank is served by a crew of 3 men: A pilot, a turret operator and a tank commander.
10.36 m long and 3.60 m wide, and 3.08 m high, the Leclerc tank offers a very compact silhouette that is easily camouflaged. It is considered to be one of the most discreet tanks currently in service. Its very flat turret offers few angles of attack for missile or rocket fire.
I
t is powered by a diesel engine with gas turbine, developing 1500 HP. A power that is not too much to move the almost 60 tons of the machine.
The main armament of the Leclerc is its 120mm gun, which can fire up to 4000 meters from shells of the arrow, shaped charge or depleted uranium penetrating arrow type. The equipment is completed by a 12.7mm machine gun in coaxial and a 7.62mm machine gun on the superstructure.
Note that the Leclerc tank was sold to the United Arab Emirates in 1993, with nearly 390 units produced.
