Poster locomotive bb 22200
A digital drawing of the french electric locomotive BB 22200
The BB 22200 are a series of 205 SNCF dual-current electric locomotives, put into service from 1976, and still in service.
They are the dual-current version of the locomotives of the broken nose family. They are able to run under direct current at 1,500 V as well as under alternating current at 25,000 V and 50 Hz, unlike other locomotives of this family which can only run under one or the other type of current. , or respectively the BB 7200 and the BB 15000.
Their numbering is based on the principle still in force at the time of delivery: dual-current version number = 1,500 V version number + 25,000 V version number, ie 22200 = 7200 + 15000 respectively.
