Inheritance from the Second World War, the submarine base in Lorient was built by the Germans between 1941 and 1944. A true military complex, highly fortified, the base housed the Kriegsmarine U-Boats until 1945. The french Marine Nationale will occupy it until 1995, before leaving the premises for good in 1997.

Several types of classic propulsion submarines will be based there (first World War II submarines, then Narval, Agosta and Daphne types).

The submarine represented on this poster is an Agosta type submarine, direct successor to the 1200 tonnes Narval type.

Four buildings will be built: L'Agosta, Le Bévéziers, La Praya and Le Ouessant.

They will serve from the mid-1970s to the early 2000s. The Ouessant will even be used in 2005 by the Malaysian navy to train the crews of the Scorpene Types.

Extremely modern, they shared a great deal of commonality with the Ruby-type Nuclear Attack Submarines. This submersible will be exported very well abroad, still serving today in many fleets.

This poster comes from a series of three posters, representing the base of Kéroman with an Agosta, a Daphne or a Narwhal.
