The Durance Class is a series of logistics support vessels used by the French Navy. These ships are designed to provide support at sea to the French naval forces, in particular for resupply operations with fuel, water, ammunition and food.
The Durance Class is made up of 5 ships: the Durance, the Meuse, the Somme, the Marne and the Var. They were built in the 1970s and 1980s and served in various military and humanitarian operations.
These ships have a length of about 157 meters and a displacement of about 19,000 tons. They are equipped with refueling overboard systems, which allow them to transfer fuel and other supplies to other ships at sea. They can carry 8400 tons of diesel fuel, 1100 tons of aviation fuel, 250 tons of fresh water or 170 tons of food.
The Durance Class has helicopter boarding capacity and can also accommodate vehicles and containers. This makes them versatile ships capable of supporting different missions.
