Poster submarine ula class
A poster of the Norwegian Navy submarine Ula Class
The Ula class, or Type 210, is the name of a type of Royal Norwegian Navy submarines assembled in Germany between the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The class, which comprises six ships, is to date the only type of submarine in service with the Norwegian Navy. New Type 212 submarines are to replace them in the decade.
When launched, these ships are touted as the quietest and most maneuverable in the world. Combined with their relatively small size, these characteristics make them difficult to detect by anti-submarine warfare vessels and perfectly suited to operations in coastal waters. The Ula class is considered by the Norwegian Navy to be one of their most efficient and inexpensive assets.
Six submarines were delivered between 1989 and 1992 to the Norwegian Navy. All are based at Haakonsvern in Bergen.
