The Rubis class is a class of six nuclear attack submarines launched in the early 1980s, and still in service today. Their mission: submarine warfare, convoy escort (SNLE, aircraft carriers...) and electronic intelligence.
Replacing the classic Agosta type submarines, the Rubis are the smallest nuclear submersibles in the world, thanks to a particularly compact nuclear boiler room. Proof of French know-how, both in design and maintenance, they are still in active service even though the head of the series will soon be 40 years old.
The Rubis is the first of the series. Launched in 1979, it was admitted to active service in 1983. During its career, it underwent an "AMETHYSTE" refit (albacore-shaped bow, wrap-around bridge and technical improvements).
These submarines are nearly 74 meters long and 2400 tons. They embark 68 crew members for missions sometimes exceeding three months. They are equipped with F17 wire-guided torpedoes, mines and EXOCET SM39 missiles. The S.N.A. Rubies can also deploy commando teams close to the coast.
You can choose the profile of the submarine you want from the drop-down menu "choice of vessel".
