A Poster featuring the famous WWII battleships: the HMS Warspite
The battleship HMS Warspite, launched on November 26, 1913 and commissioned on March 8, 1915, played a significant role in both World Wars. It was involved in the Battle of Jutland in 1916, sustaining significant damage. After repairs, she operated in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean between the wars.
Renovated from 1934 to 1937, the Warspite became the flagship of the British fleet in the Mediterranean. During World War II, he took part in various engagements, including the Norwegian campaign, the Mediterranean and the Normandy landings. It played a key role in the Battle of Matapan and suffered damage from German air attacks.
Despite repairs in the United States and the United Kingdom, Warspite continued to participate in operations, especially in Sicily and Normandy. In January 1945, it was placed in reserve and eventually withdrawn from service. Damaged by a storm in 1947, her wreck was left in Mont Bay until 1950, when she was demolished.
