"red october" submarine profile
A poster of the fictitious nuclear ballistic missile submarine "Red October" seen from the side
Very largely inspired by the "Typhoon" submarine (Project 941), the largest and largest submarines in the world, the Red October is, according to its author, "even longer and wider". It takes imagination to better appreciate its gigantism: more than 210 meters long, 26 meters wide and nearly 50,000 tons underwater (!!!). The Red October is also equipped with six additional nuclear missiles (26 in total).
To complete the whole, a secret weapon - cornerstone of the book - a propulsion system under the vault "the Caterpillar", making it almost undetectable.
The submarine is shown here in profile.
