Poster deep rescue exercice "PILOU"

In 1994, the Nuclear Engine Launcher Submarine "Le Tonnant" was loaded with a DSRV on its aft deck. The objective is to simulate a deep sea rescue by coming to the rescue of the "Bévéziers", a classic Agosta-type submarine.

The DSRV, for Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle, is a rescue submarine that can operate up to 1,500 meters deep to recover endangered crews. Note that NATO has now been using the NSRS (Nato Submarine Rescue System) since the 2000s.

For the anecdote, the Bévéziers was put to contribution because not using nuclear propulsion, it was much easier and safer to put it on the sandy bottom.

The same mission will be renewed in 1999, Le Tonnant serving once again as transport for the American DSRV.
