A digital drawing of the Narval class Submarine "Dauphin" after his refit in 1984.
A humpback whale surfacing? No ... Just the "Dauphin" on a rapid rise!
Coming from the series of "Narval", classic submarines (Diesel / Electric) of 1200 tons, the S 633 "Dauphin" was launched in 1955. It was officially in service in 1958, and will sail until in the early 1980s.
At a time when its sister-ships were gradually withdrawn from active service, the Dauphin was transformed in 1984 as an experimental shio for the development of numerous equipment for the M4 SSBNs, then the “Le Triomphant” type SSBNs.
The modifications of the SISYPHE program will profoundly transform the front bow of the Dauphin, which then adopts a more rounded and modern hull.
The Dauphin will serve until 1992, when it is finally decommissioned.
Then, you can be old, and still be of service!
