The SEPECAT Jaguar is a Franco-British military aircraft, designed for ground attack (single-seater version) and advanced training (two-seater version). Entering service in 1973, it was manufactured in more than 600 examples, used by six countries, including India which produced it under license.
The project was born in the 1960s from a collaboration between France and the United Kingdom to develop a trainer aircraft with ground attack capabilities. Breguet Aviation and British Aircraft Corporation formed the SEPECAT joint venture for its design and production. The Jaguar was declined in several versions for each country, with differences in armament and avionics. The naval version Jaguar M, intended for the French Navy, was abandoned.
In France, the Jaguar fulfilled several missions, including ground attack, nuclear strikes, anti-radar attacks, and electronic warfare. It was also used for reconnaissance and low-altitude fighter missions. The Air Force retired the Jaguar from service in 2005.
The Jaguar is known for its ruggedness, ability to operate in rough terrain, and ease of maintenance.n
