Poster SSBN S614 "Le Tonnant" M4
A digital drawing of the nuclear french SSBN "Le Tonnant" in dry dock.
Le Tonnant is the fifth nuclear missile submarine, launched in 1977. It is the sister-ship of the SNLE Le Redoutable.
It was put into service in 1980 and will be equipped with M4 missiles during its major overhaul in 1985. It is decommissioned in 1999, after 19 years in the Strategic Oceanic Force. The Tonner took part in numerous missions, in particular the "PILOU" exercise in 1994, aimed at testing the rescue of a submarine with the help of the American DSRV.
128 meters long and 10.60 meters wide, and a displacement of more than 8,000 tonnes, this first generation SSBN carried 16 nuclear missiles.
It is here represented in its recast version M4, on its tin line.
The poster was produced using Procreate and Ipad Pro in 2020.
