The so-called "new generation" nuclear submarine "Le triomphant class replaced the "Le Redoutable" SSBN series from 1997.
Larger, wider, heavier, these submarines initially carried 16 M45 nuclear missiles with a range of 6000 km (against 4000 km for M4 missiles). In 2020, the ships are all qualified to fire M51 missiles with a range of nearly 10,000 km.
The SNLE-NG "Le Téméraire" is the second of the four "Le Triomphant" type submarines. Launched in January 1998, it was admitted to active service at the end of 1999.
These buildings are 138 meters long and over 12 meters wide. Their displacement is about 12,500 tons, and they carry a crew of 111 men. Although classified as a defense secret, their maximum immersion would exceed 500 meters.
